The Plaza Cafe, Santa Fe's oldest restaurant, has been serving highly acclaimed, authentic traditional dishes since 1918. In 1947, Dionysi Razatos, a Greek immigrant with an American dream, took over the Plaza Cafe and his family has been feeding Santa Fe ever since. Danny (his Americanized name) married a local girl named Beneranda and together they ran the Plaza and raised six children. As their children grew they all worked at the Plaza and helped to create what the restaurant is today.
From time to time, we venture out to eat on the plaza, even though we live here, and find way better places to spend our money (read: not tourist traps) and the Plaza Cafe usually satisfies. Normal prices, friendly service, decent food. Well, not this time. Maybe they are suffering from end of summer burnout, or something.
We started off by being seated and given menus rather quickly. We ordered sodas - all of which came to the table completely flat. Our kids, being kids, drank theirs anyway because the sodas still had sugar in them. I did not, neither did my wife. When the waiter finally came back around, my wife told him our sodas were flat. he ran away, and brought back one new soda for my wife- nothing about the rest of the tables drinks. The new soda was just as flat as the old soda. By that time our food had arrived, the waiter was no where to be found, so we ate, without drinks.
Kids meals - spagetti with sauce, was way overcooked, but my daughter ate it anyway. My son ordered cheese nachos- what do you expect for a 6 year old- but even he didn't want to finish the rock hard chips with hardly any cheese on top.
All in all -not a great experience. We'll probably give them one more try, maybe. Or, maybe not.
